Olmos was too young for it. He needed a more pitted face, and Michael Hogan cast as his XO. Olmos is at his prime in Battlestar Galactica re-imagined - the best thing since TNG. I wonder how Patrick Stewart would have done as Admiral Adama.

That would be an amazing TNG reimaginated

It might be weird, seeing how both Adama and Tigh would have been bald.
