Compaq CQ50 Celeron died whatevs'

Post by Kaito »

I bought it as a toy in 2010 from someone who was getting a mac book. It came with
1 of 2 bum memory chips and a slow version of Vista on it. So I bought another mem
wiped it and put Win7 Ultimate on it and it came back to life. It was a Celeron 2gig.
The battery stopped holding a charge by then as well. It still did a lot for me including
play STO and hosting a Win8 VMWare. I put a bunch of extra stickers on it as if it traveled
around the world of Info Tech....

Fare thee well Compaq Presario CQ50... :p

You could fix it. Probably a memory issue or even Video card related. Could be heat etc etc etc.
I've found that most laptops come with poor memory and that that is 80% of the problems.

In my case. I replaced the memory with some good old Corsair. Which added further weight to the reincarnation myth, because it was a champion of a machine after that.

Naw I took the drive out and tossed it out (saved the memory to) Im no Laptop guru. Not worth the trouble to me. To many screws and delicate situations. 6 years off a used machine im fine. +plus I changed memory when I got it. What evers dead (board, vid, chip) can stay right there - in the trash :)

6 years is definitely lasts a fair bit longer than the average laptop these days.
