A different house for everyday allows then to be properly fumigated to avoid disease such as the black plague.

Doing nothing is my specialist subject, really. I'm content with the role of private landlord and improve properties and increase the rent, but my fortune, title and estates are the work of others, who laboured to build a great dynasty. Do I have the right to destroy their work, or impoverish that dynasty? No, so I must contribute to society on a national level as well. I'm a custodian for the next generation, not an owner. I must strive to be worthy of the task I have been set. That doesn't mean I don't love large houses and rooms though. Different rooms for different times of the day and different rooms for different seasons of the year.

Did you know I do some of my best thinking while pulling weeds?
If you have not already done so, I suggest you read meditations by Emperor Marcus Aurelius. A man who was a few pay grades above any modern monarch, who also happened to be remarkably forward-thinking. Rather than resting on the laurels you inherited, on titles and estates, real men of character turn to philosophy. Especially important if you are a nobleman surrounded by indulgences, for they tempt you away from achieving your maximum potential. Building an impressive list of virtues is something which invariably requires considerable discomfort.

An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest, Jesse. I think life is about finding out who you are, one can do that through philosophy or perhaps through something as Freemasonry; which has elements of philosophy. And since you mentioned antiquity, it might be interesting watching the video below. It's perhaps rather laughable seeing the actor in the video, but listen to his words instead. That's what life is about, for me at least.

Greatness of a man can be measured. Not by his wealth or fame, but by his deeds, his character, his truth, his tolerance, his charity, his trust, his friendship and his love for others. Perhaps this video has sparked some interest and does persuade some of you to walk that path as well.
